DIANNE FRASER HAS A SONG LIST FOR YOU

November 12, 2010 - Dianne Fraser in Part Time Diva
RATING: FOUR GLASSES OF CHAMPAGNE !!!!
(highest rating) – trademarked-

Dianne Fraser is a wiz at “Special Material” words in the songs that she sang at her recent Rrazz Room appearance. She thoroughly immerses the audience with amusing and brightly performed new lyrics on songs like “Cabaret” (Special Lyrics by her husband Jeff Cohn), and a song that was cut from “ Chicago “Ten Percent” should have stayed in the Broadway show. It’s all about a nasty Talent Agent. Ooos – that couldn’t be Fraser – could it? Naw!

From the musical “The Baker’s Wife” she gave a powerful compelling version of “Chanson” sung in half English and half French. I loved it – it was remarkably moving.

The songs that she put together for this fascinating show were written by many names that you would remember. Like John Kander & Fred Ebb, Richard Adler & Jerry Ross, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked/Godspell), Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick, David Shire & Richard Maltby, Jr, Julie Styne & Stephen Sondheim and a host of others.

Extremely funny was “Thank god this is the Finale” (Special Material by Jeff Cohn). There were also the amusing lyrics by Cohn on “Part time Diva). Fraser has a quick wit: “I played Marian the Librarian at Walter Reed Middle School . ” She also amuses us with anecdotes of how her career took her all the way to Hollywood as a Talent Agent.

Fraser has put together a complete fusion of music with surprising new words on familiar music. It was like watching a complete Broadway show with her utterly compelling way of giving new life to old songs. The whole evening was topical. There were even some surprise guests in the room from 42nd Street Moon – Singer Stephanie Rhoads (producing director) and Greg MacKellan – (Artistic Director of 42nd Moon). Rhoads also sang a few bars from her seat in the audience. Wonderful tuneful evening supported by the following marvels: Musical Director – Brad Ellis. Pianist – Jonathan Dinerstein – Bass. Daniel Fabricant – Drums. Denise Fraser, Special Material Jeff Cohn. Additional Vocals – Stephanie Rhoads.
